I have been busy the past few days making crochet hearts for the NHS hospital near to me. They asked on Facebook if anyone could help with making hearts to give patients and their families. As the patients can’t have any visitors they want to give one heart to the patient and one to their family to try and help them feel some closeness.
I know first hand how hard it is not to be able to visit family members in hospital during this difficult time. My father-in-law was admitted to hospital last week after having a bad fall at home and we weren’t able to visit hime. I am so grateful he hasn’t got Coronavirus, it must be really upsetting for families not being able to visit their loved ones.
So, the least I could do to show my appreciation and thanks to the fantastic nurses and doctors was to crochet some hearts. I searched the internet for the best pattern and after a few failed attempts, I came across this great one by Planet June, I will add the link at the bottom of the page.
The best size I found was the large one, which turned out about 6cm. I used Drops Muskat and Drops Cotton Light and a size 4.5mm hook. I made two hearts in the same colour and crocheted them together and filled them slightly with hypoallergenic filling. I included a hanging loop in case they wanted to hang them up on the beds.
I have made 20 hearts now and will be sending them to my local NHS hospital tomorrow, I will make some more for them if they are needed. I know it is only a small thing, but I hope I have been able to help in some way.
Hope everyone is managing to stay safe and all your families are healthy and well?
