Well I have jumped on the bandwagon and have started making crochet face masks! I have made them in Drops Muskat, which is 100% cotton so that they can be washed in high temperatures to kill all germs.
The pattern is designed by Creggy’s Crochet and there is a tutorial on YouTube on how to make it. I will include the link at the bottom of the page.
The face masks are very easy to make and have a handy pocket at the back for a filter to be added for protection. I think this is a great idea, as the filter can be disposed of and the mask can be washed and worn again.
I was intending to sell these crochet face masks in my Etsy and Folksy shops, but when I showed them on a Folksy Facebook group page, I got absolutely slated for them! People were saying that they wouldn’t be very protective against the virus, there were too many holes in them. I did try to explain that they weren’t designed to be worn on their own, you had to add a filter in the pocket on the inside for protection. But after the very negative feedback I received, I have decided not to sell them, I wouldn’t want to be the cause for someone getting ill!
But if you would want to make some for yourselves, they are very comfortable to wear and fit your face well. On Pinterest they have some fantastic designs to add to children’s ones. There are some very creative people out there.
I have also seen some rainbow ones, which is a brilliant idea considering the times we are in at the moment.
I have decided to just stick to baby items to sell now, at least people seem to like those! 😉
Hope you have a go at making the face masks for yourself and have a look at the ideas for different patterns to add to them on Pinterest. Stay safe everyone.
