In this blog post I will be showing you the crochet buttoned cowl I made during the recent bad weather we have had here in the UK. As I am sure you are aware of, we had terrible snow storms and sub-zero temperatures here which resulted in people being cut off and not being able to get out. As I live in Derbyshire, I am used to getting snow in the winter but I have never seen it this bad! The media dubbed it as ‘the beast from the east’ and they weren’t wrong, it was absolutely freezing cold and it snowed solid for five days. I didn’t go out for a whole week, not even to the bin, haha. Here are a few photos I took from our window.
But on the plus side I did manage to get a lot of crocheting done. It was really nice and cosy just watching the snow fall and sitting all warm and crocheting away! I think you will like what I’ve been making, I found this lovely pattern on a website called ‘Little Monkeys Crochet’ for a crochet buttoned cowl, called the Malia cowl. I will add the link to this pattern at the bottom of this post. This is one I made in green, I added wooden buttons to it which I think look really good.
There is also a matching beanie hat and Infinity Scarf in the same beautiful pattern, I will include a link to these patterns also at the bottom of this post.
I made this cowl in a yarn by ‘Drops’ called Air, it’s a medium thick blown yarn, made of Baby Alpaca and Merino Wool and it’s so soft and light. This cowl will be lovely and warm to wear but without the bulk of a heavier yarn.
As I have a few colours in this gorgeous yarn, I decided to make a few more of the cowls. I have just finished one in a lilac colour and I have got another one on the go in a rich burgundy colour. I absolutely love these cowls, they are so quick and easy to make and the pattern is gorgeous.
I hope you have enjoyed seeing what I got up to during ‘the beast from the east’. If you fancy having a go at making some of these lovely cowls, here are the links to the patterns I have mentioned in this post.

If you have a go at making any of these, I would love to see how you get on. I am planning on making the beanie hat to go with the buttoned cowl, so I will update you on that when I have made it.
